Enugu Land Crises: You Are Seeking Cheap Relevance, But Won’t Get Any – Obeagu Welfare Association Blasts Mr. Kingsley Eze

By Johnpaul Anih, 16 – 12 – 2020

The Obeagu Welfare Association has described the Press interview granted by a certain Kingsley Eze, the principal promoter of a purported Enugu Lifestyle and Golf City otherwise known as Centenary City, as mischievous, misleading and fabricated cheap campaign against their son who doubles as the Enugu State Commissioner for Lands and urban Development Dr. Surv. Victor Chukwuemeka Nnam.

In a Press Release jointly signed by the Land Committee Chairman Gilbert Ikechukwu Agbo, the secretary – Chief Reuben Okafor, the Town President General – Chief Andy C. Egbo and the traditional ruler of Obeagu Awkunanaw – Igwe Mike A Nnukwu and made available to Daily Star Online News, they issued a note of warning to Mr. Kingsley Eze to further desist from trespassing on those lands.

It reads,

Our attention has been drawn to an utterly mischievous and misleading press interview granted by a certain Mr. Kingsley Eze, the principal promoter of a purported Enugu Lifestyle and Golf City AKA Centenary City and which Centenary City, he avers, to be sitting on our ancestral land, wherein the referenced Kingsley Eze laid claims to the shared patrimony of the Awkunanaw people.
It is not in doubt that the Obeagu Community is a peace loving one and have remained strongly supportive of the administration of Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi.

It is also not in doubt that this administration has given us succor.
Ordinarily, we would have preferred not to join issues as such, but find the expedience to do so as we find the plot by Haman’s henchman, who may have set up his gallow to hang an honest man, whose only crime was to find the courage to do the right thing.

The referenced Kingsley Eze has mastered the art of playing to the gallery and is unfortunately orchestrating some voodoo trial aimed at painting the Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Urban, Enugu State, Surveyor Dr. Victor Chukwuemeka Nnam with a bad brush, in order to assassinate his person and character. It therefore behoves of us to tell the story the way it truly is.

Summarily, His Excellency Sen. Dr. Jim Nwobodo, was governor of the Old Anambra State from 1979 to 1983. During his time as governor, he sought to, amongst other noble intentions, site a University, the Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH), as it would then have been christened, in his homestead in Awkunanaw.

He commissioned for Survey works to be carried out, pursuant to the acquisition of an estimated 318.560 hectares of our ancestral land cutting across Amechi Awkunanaw and Obeagu Awkunanaw. Preliminary Survey was done and endorsed by the then Surveyor General, M.U.C Obi dated March 8, 1982 with Tracing No: MISC AN-53 on the 318.560 hectares.

The administration of Sen. Dr. Jim Nwobodo came to an end in 1983 and he could neither complete the acquisition nor institute the University project as planned.

This disruption may have just paved a highway for the biggest land heist to be conceptualized and carried out on our ancestral land. Indeed, the disruption presented the opportunity for the grand purveyor of forgery to label a forthright individual with allegations of forgery in order to sway the spotlight from himself and the layers of fraud and forgery that form the foundation of his own white elephant project.

Regardless of the above circumstance as well as the subsequent developments such as the creation of Enugu State, the renaming and relocation of the University to Agbani by His Excellency Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, and notwithstanding our position regarding the said Three Hundred and Eighteen hectares (318ha), we were overwhelmed when sometime in the year 2009, some heavy earth moving equipment in the company of some heavily armed soldiers and policemen were suddenly seen in our community clearing farmlands and demolishing some residential buildings without any form of notification, agreement, etc.

It was upon further inquiry that we were informed that the Sullivan Chime led Enugu State Government had allocated a total of One Thousand and Ninety-Seven Hectares (1097ha) of land to a certain private company known as Private Estate West Africa International Ltd. to build a private estate christened ‘centenary city’ and which land so allotted, comprised of the proposed Three Hundred and Eighteen hectares (318ha) as well as an additional Seven Hundred and Seventy-Nine hectares (779Ha) and both of which land is part of our ancestral land, for the purely commercial interest of the private developers and their friends in and around government at the material time.

Being in the know of the processes of land acquisition by the government vis-à-vis the fact that this land alleged to have been allotted to the said Private Estate West Africa International Ltd. is made up of our villages and farmlands, we went into a further and more in-depth inquiry cum investigation and discovered to our consternation that the said allocation was fraught with illegality and fraud of the highest magnitude including but not limited to a forged Gazette and Survey Plan as well as the non-issuance of the mandatory Notice of Acquisition to our people.

Our discovery led to the various petitions against the said private company to the Government of Enugu State and other relevant agencies whose investigations have gotten to varying advanced stages.

The Government of Enugu State under the administration of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, acting on our persistent plea and petition, revoked the said allocation and published the Notice of the said Revocation in the Daily Sun Newspaper of November 29, 2019 and which Notice of Revocation had to be signed by Surveyor Dr. Victor Chukwuemeka Nnam, by virtue of his office as Hon. Commissioner of Lands and Urban Development, hence the witch hunt by Kingsley Eze.
Instead of trying to liaise with our traditional leadership for possible accommodation of his pet ‘Enugu Lifestyle and Golf City’ Project in our ancestral lands, Kingsley Eze is going about granting press interviews, and creating photo-ops with which to further cajole and sway unsuspecting individuals, especially those in diaspora, with claims of ownership to our land. How does anyone brazenly lay claim to any part of the land where our fathers were buried in sweat and blood? May the gods of our forefathers repay him accordingly.

The referenced Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Surveyor Dr. Victor Chukwuemeka Nnam is a bonafide son of the Nkanu dynasty. He has earned his worth as a son of the soil and we can vouch for his character any day.
The vituperations of Kingsley Eze can only be described as a clear case of corruption fighting back. The most corrupt, invest their stolen wealth in theatrics and optics to sway the attention of anti-corruption crusaders and the general public from their viles.
Mr. Kingsley Eze’s utterances in Media interviews over a matter pending before a law court, rather than allow the court to hear both parties and deliver judgment on same, is viewed with dismay. His utterance is certainly prejudice to the case before the law court. The Court reserves the right to rule on the matter. Mr. Eze should therefore be advised to allow the court to rule on the matter before carrying same to the public domain, casting unfounded and unproven aspersions on innocent persons, all in his futile and devilish intent to get at our dear governor.

This is one case where evil will not prevail. Nkanu sons and daughters here and abroad are encouraged to begin to speak up against this merchant of tumult. For indeed throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted, the indifference of those who should have known better, the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most, which has made it possible for evil to triumph.
The General Public is hereby encouraged to refuse to be railroaded into parting with their hard earned resources over any portion of our land except with the express approval of the Traditional Leadership of Obeagu Awkunanaw.

We are also confident that the Courts will not allow herself become a willing tool in the hands of corrupt men. We are equally, by this medium, appealing to Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Security et al as well as to the Fourth Estate of the realm, to be wary of the antics of men like Kingsley Eze, lest Nigeria loses the war against corruption.
Long Live Obeagu Awkunanaw!!!
Long Live Nkanu Land!!!
Long Live Enugu State!!!
Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!
