Enugu Airport: Gov. Ugwuanyi, Buhari and Nnolim Nnaji Should be commended – Johnpaul Anih

Following the August 30 deadline announced by the Federal Government for the reopening of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu, after one year of closure to undergo rehabilitation work on the runway and the upgrade of it’s facilities, I observed it has elicited a lot of excitement among residents of business Communities within and outside of Enugu State.

President Muhammadu Buhari Should be Commended for living up to expectation in that regard.

The Enugu State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi should be eulogized for his dogged efforts and undying commitment to making sure that there is hitch free environment during the Airport’s upgrade.

It will undoubtedly open the economic hub of the Southeast as it’s terminal buildings are now wearing new look.

Although it took longer than expected for the completion of the work and reopening of the airport, but it was worth waiting for as the status of the airport will attract investors.

I specially thank the House Committee Chairman on Aviation Hon. Nnolim Nnaji (Ozoigbondu) for his relentless efforts in delivering this project inline with the determination of the Federal Government to transforming the aviation sector.

This Airport will amongst other things promote an improved quality of life, facilitate tourism, generate economic growth, providing employment opportunities and increase revenue generation base of the zone.

I am indeed pleased that we have reached this milestone within the environmental assessment process. This rehabilitation project is not only about the growth of the airport, it’s about unlocking the growth potential of Enugu being the capital of the South East. It will further contribute to the development of the region’s
public finance, economic development, transportation economics, amongst other benefits.

In addition, the connections created between cities and markets represent an important infrastructure asset that generates benefits through enabling foreign direct investment, business clusters, specialisation and other spill-over impacts on an economy’s productive capacities.

By facilitating tourism and trade, Enugu Airport is back to generating economic growth, increase and foster the conservation of protected areas.
