2023 Governorship: There is yet no official pronouncement – Samuel Nnamani argues

2023 Governorship: There is yet no official pronouncement inline with the zonnig template- Samuel Freeman Nnamani argues

By Johnpaul Anih, 11-8-2020.

Responding to the media reports wherein the Enugu State Governor Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was quoted to have vowed to hand over power to an Nkanu man come 2023, Samuel Freeman Nnamani has this to say:

This is stale news. This political promise preceded the 2019 elections when the Governor in soliciting votes from Nkanu East Stakeholders led by their Chairman Ikechukwu Ubagu (Onyejigu), argued that a vote for Governorship candidates from Enugu West zone or other parties, will alter the 2023 turn and return of Nkanu to the Lion building.

Former Governors Chimaroke Nnamani and Sullivan Chime made clear the next zone to produce their successors early enough, in fact, during their second term inaugurations and then through their body languages indicated their preferred successors who went on to become front runners for the coveted office.

Martin Chukwunweike for Chimaroke & Eugene Odoh for Sullivan. Though both of them went on to lose to their zonal kinsmen; Sullivan Chime over Martin Chukwunweike in 2007 & Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi over Eugene Odoh in 2015, in peaceful successions midwifed by Governors Chimaroke (2007) & Sullivan (2015).

This time, the succession template is different, it is shrouded in mystery and immersed in intrigues as in just 28 months to the exit of this administration, there is yet no official pronouncement by the incumbent, regarding keeping faith with equity on the rotational zoning arrangement. The situation appears more complicated as the Governor’s multiple body languages are often subjected to different interpretations from the speculative imaginations of the citizenry.

For instance, that Isiuzo LGA is favoured over the rest LGAs in Enugu East Zone. That the sitting Senator of Enugu West Zone wants to run for Governor to upstage Nkanu and alter the standing arrangement. That the rotation will be reversed to re-start from the rear with Enugu North Zone, so that another Nsukka person will succeed Governor Ugwuanyi.

In all the above scenerios, the Nkanu man and people are being disrespected because Nkanu liberated ‘Wawaland’ as it produced the first elected Governor of Old Anambra State in Jim Nwobodo, Nkanu produced the first Governor of Enugu State that dismantled the bourgeoisie, liberated and lifted the proleteriat into positions of governance of which Governor Ugwuanyi is a beneficiary in Ebeano Chimaroke Nnamani, Nkanu produced the best Senate President that saved Nigerian democracy from a tyrant, seeking unconstitutionally to become Life President in Ken Nnamani.

The time worn parlance therefore suffices: “Ochi chi ka kwa nma o, na ndi odoro anya”
It has become most necessary for Enugu East Zone (Nkanu people) to request His Excellency, Lawrence Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi (HELIU), to confirm publicly that the zone has the right of first refusal with respect to the Office of Governor come 2023, like his predecessors did. He should also make bold to choose who he thinks, wants, imagines should succeed him from Isiuzo LGA, Enugu (East, North & South LGAs) and Nkanu (East & West LGAs).

Power comes from God and there is a political Video Assistant Referee (VAR) that can reverse unfair/ parochial decisions and partiality.

Nkanu Ogbuzuru Ogbuzuru.
