The good people of Isi-Uzo Local government area of Enugu State have commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the state for his Rural Developmental Drive and admonished him to prioritize agriculture.
They made the admonition on Thursday when Daily Star Online News Crew visited Ihenyi Agarama Autonomous Community in Isi-Uzo Local government.
Welcoming the crew members, the Traditional Ruler, Igwe John Odo, represented by one of his cabinet members Chief Fidelis Egwuatu, Stated that lack of access roads to the various farm settlements in the community has become one of the greatest nightmare of the community as it has become a major impediment to the evacuation of their farm produce to the urban area.
Chief Egwuatu listed some agricultural products produced in the community to include; Maize, Rice, yam, Cassava, cucumber, melon, palm oil, palm kernel amongst others.
He further stated that the non availability of good road network in the community has brought untold hardship to the residents of the community as they have resorted to using wheel barrows, bicycles, Motorcycles and trekking a long distance as means of transportation.
This according to him has exposed the residents especially the elderly to different kind of sickness thereby, reducing productivity.
Chief Egwuatu however called on the State’s Ministry of Agriculture to be alive to their responsibilities in encouraging Isi-Uzo famers.
Other Community members, Chukwuma Ogenyi and Emmanuella Odoabuchi bemoaned the Local Government Chairman Hon. Jacob Abonyi for performing poorly and threatened to institute a legal action against him.
Also speaking, a prominent indigine of the Community, Hon. Simon Ede, thanked Governor Ugwuanyi for the on going construction of Neke -Umualor- Eha-amufu road which passed through Ihenyi Agarama Autonomous community, but decried the continued neglect of the major community roads which includes Ogbuzor Ihenyi- Ugwuagbatu Ikem road by successive Government despite numerous promises to construct the road during electioneering campaigns.
Hon. Edeh also stated that the said roads cuts across over nine Villages with six polling units and about 8000 population which are mostly farmers and further appealed to the Governor to kindly and urgently intervene on the said roads in order to save the inhabitants from this preventable hardship occasioned by lack of access roads.
Reacting, the President General of Ihenyi Agarama Autonomous Community Mr. Darl M. Nnaji while commending Governor Ugwuanyi’s commitment to massive rural development, called on the famers to keep supporting the present administration as it is poised to addressing the challenges facing the community.

All efforts to get the opinion of the Local Government Chairman Hon. Jacob Abonyi was fruitless as he declined comment.
